dr.dermal’s MicroRetinol 5 Rich Repair microencapsulated retinol cream is carefully formulated to provide controlled time release of retinol into your skin, thereby ensuring maximum skin renewal benefits whilst reducing the risk of irritation. With 5% microencapsulated retinol, it is the most powerful microencapsulated retinol cream available in South Africa.
The microencapsulated retinol allows for more efficient delivery to your skin while preserving the potency of the retinol molecule. Without encapsulation, retinol is an unstable molecule. Retinol is one of the forms of Vitamin A which has been studied extensively and it’s anti aging benefits well documented. Retinol speeds up cellular renewal, reduces the appearance of superficial pigmentation and blemishes, reduces acne and improves the skin texture by thickening the dermis and stimulating collagen production.
Our MicroRetinol 5 Rich Repair also contains a nourishing blend of ceramides which restore your skin’s barrier and reduces dehydration. Potent peptides aid DNA repair to dramatically rejuvenate the skin’s appearance. Powerful antioxidants fight off free radicals to halt oxidative damage. Quite simply, it is the most powerful & complete microencapsulated retinol cream yet. It refines, repairs and revitalises the condition of your skin with dramatic results.
Why use a retinol cream? Retinol is one of the most tried and tested advanced skin care ingredients in use. It has been clinically proven to improve cellular renewal and thicken the dermis resulting in rejuvenated skin with fewer fine lines and wrinkles, reduction in the appearance of blemishes, and improved skin texture. In our unique and nourishing delivery system, the retinol benefits are also more efficiently delivered than in a retinol serum for example which may sensitize the skin due to the lack of moisturisers and skin identical lipids.
Retinol is converted by your skin in two metabolic steps into retinoic acid which is the only form of Vitamin A that your skin can readily use. Products with pure retinoic acid can be highly irritating and are currently available by prescription only.
Apply to clean, dry skin in the evening. Can be used nightly by more tolerant skins. First time retinol users should start with a 2 to 3 day interval between applications, and gradually reduce interval lengths as tolerance develops.

Q: What is Retinol?
A: Retinol is a form of vitamin A, which has incredible anti-ageing properties for your skin. Once absorbed by your skin, it is metabolized into retinoic acid, which is the only bio-available form of vitamin A. Pure retinoic acid is available in prescription-only products, and consequently retinol is the purest form of vitamin A obtainable without prescription. The closer the form of vitamin A is to retinoic acid, the greater the potential is for performance and irritation. However, in a microencapsulated form, the high effectiveness is achieved with significantly less irritation.
Q: What does retinol do in the skin?
A: Retinol induces epidermal thickening by stimulating collagen production and enhancing the skin’s renewal process. It is effective in reducing the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles and treating photo ageing. It reduces TEWL (trans epidermal water loss) and produces considerably less irritation than retinoic acid. Retinol has the ability to change the condition of the newly formed basal skin cell, which means a much healthier skin cell is formed and sent to the surface of the skin through the natural cell turnover process of 29 days. To increase cell turnover time, glycolic acid is used as part of the rejuvenation process.
Q: How much retinol is in your product?
A: Our product contains 5% microencapsulated retinol. This does not mean it contains 5% pure retinol, which would be far too potent and irritating to the skin. Each dose of our product delivers about 850 IU (International Units) of vitamin A to the skin, which is sufficient for antioxidant and anti-ageing properties to work as intended. The concentration of retinol is often misrepresented on packaging leading the consumer to believe that they are purchasing a product with a higher concentration of retinol than the product actually contains. A concentration of between 0.1 – 0.25% of pure retinol is sufficient to generate anti-ageing benefits.
It is set in a polysaccharide delivery system, which is a time-release delivery system, ensuring optimum stimulation is created without any irritation.
Q: Is it safe to use during the day?
A: Retinol products should only be used in the evening as they can increase photosensitivity.
Q: Is it safe to use during pregnancy?
A: There is no research or data to suggest that retinol is or is not safe during pregnancy. So if you are pregnant it is recommended that you consult with your doctor before starting the use of retinol.
